I Wish My Dad Was Home

Jack was having a hard time listening to his teacher.  He was thinking of his father who is a soldier.  He hadn’t seen his father for six months.  Tonight was Jack’s first baseball game of the season.  Jack is the pitcher on his team.  He had asked his mom if his dad would be at the game.  His mom told him that his dad probably wouldn’t be there because he was unable to get a leave (that’s what they call a short vacation from the Army.)

Finally the school bell rang.  School was over for the day.  Jack packed his books into his backpack and headed for the school bus.  It was a beautiful spring day.  The sun was shining as he got off of the bus and headed to his house.  He was still sad that his dad wouldn’t see him play that night.  It was always special to play at night when the lights were on on the field.  It seemed to make the game more exciting for him.

Jack opened the door to his house.  He shouted; “I’m home Mom!”  As he was putting down his backpack he saw a huge backpack on the floor.  Then before he could ask his mom why it was there his dad came into the room!  They ran to each other and Jack’s dad picked him up and told him how much he loved him.  Jack was so happy to see his dad.  That night Jack’s dad was yelling and cheering as Jack pitched.  He was one of the proudest dad’s in the bleachers along with Jack’s mom.  After the game Jack’s dad, who had on his military uniform was greeted by the other parent’s who said; “Thank you for your service!”
